Handsome Rob Shave Company Lemon Zest Giveaway

My newest shave-cave addition is a Lemon Zest shave cream that came to me from the Handsome Rob Shave Company.

Handsome Rob Lemon Zest
Handsome Rob Lemon Zest

This is my first time using a shave cream; I usually use a puck of shave soap, badger, or boar hair brush and bowl routine for shaving and looked forward to trying out this new (new to me) shave product.

The new shave cream instructions say to take a dab about the size of a nickel and apply it to the face with fingers or a brush.

I used the brush option and promptly dropped the nickel sized dab of soap on the floor. The second dab was applied directly to my face with my fingers.

Once I had it smooshed around a little with my fingers I went at it with the shave brush. Using a circular motion I whipped the shave cream into a beautiful and light lather.

And I have to say, I have a winner here. Totally different than the ultra thick and slick Stirling Soap Company (which I love), this stuff is fluffy and light with a great stick-to-the-face ability. The rich lemon scent made me feel like I was lathering with lemon meringue pie! It truly smells delicious.

And the shave I got from it! Incredible. My cheeks were as smooth as the proverbial baby’s bottom. I do admit that I used a new Super-Max platinum razor today as well so that may also have contributed to my superb shave. However, for now I am crediting the Handsome Rob Lemon Zest Shave Cream.

So, in the spirit of the season of giving, I asked the good folks at Handsome Rob if they would like to help me with a giveaway and they agreed! They have provided me with a container of the Lemon Zest shave cream and an after shave soother to giveaway!

And here are the details of how you can enter the giveaway;

The Stirling Soap Company Giveaway

Today’s giveaway is aimed at the old school wet shavers in the audience! We have partnered with the good people at Stirling Soap Company for this giveaway.

Now, to be honest, I have not yet used any of the soaps from Stirling Soap Company. This is only because I picked the soaps up at the post office this afternoon and have not made my way into the shave cave yet today. Later this evening I will be testing out the shave soap.

Black Cherry Lather
Black Cherry Lather

Update: I just shaved my face and my head with the Black Cherry Shave soap. It took a bit of experimenting, but with more water in my boar hair shave brush than I usually use and a more vigorous swirling on the soap puck and I had a beauty of a lather develop.

The lather went on my skin beautifully. It is one of the thickest and richest lathers I have had the pleasure of using. The lather was like (and this is absolutely meant as a compliment) a perfect combination of delicious smelling chilled bacon fat and fresh cherries. It spread across my skin beautifully. Yes, this sounds bizarre but it is gorgeous feeling on the skin.

I am pretty excited to try out more of these new soaps because they are cold pressed, beef or mutton tallow soaps that are said to lather up super thick and slick. The shave soaps are intended to be used in a shave bowl or an apothecary mug.

Sharp Dressed Man
Sharp Dressed Man

The first one up for a giveaway is called Sharp Dressed Man. This soap is patterned after the famous Green Irish Tweed scent that was created for Cary Grant. This scent has been put to use by men like Robert Redford and Clint Eastwood, meaning this is what real men smell like, whether they’re stepping out in a tuxedo like Redford, or making a canoe out of someone’s forehead like Eastwood.

The next one is called Barbershop. This soap has a smell that recreates the essence of sitting in the old-time barbershop, reading the paper while you wait for a haircut or a shave.

I also have a bar of Autumn Glory up for grabs. This one has a very gentle aroma that reminds me of the time years ago when I went walking with my grandfather around the birch and aspen groves at his lakeside cabin.

Now to the good stuff; to enter the giveaway, all you have to do is;

  • Write a comment with a number between 1 (one) and 100 (one hundred) on this blog post. (Yes, you can enter with numbers one or 100).
  • One entry per email address.
  • On Friday, December 6th, 2013 sometime shortly after 6pm PST I will use an iPad app to generate THREE (3) random numbers to decide the winners of this giveaway.
  • Each winner will be sent one of the the three soaps. If you have a preference of which one you like, add that in the blog post comment with your number.
  • When posting your comment with your chosen number, be sure to include your name and a valid email address (will not be published or shared or sold or used to send you spam). The email address will be the way that I communicate to the winners of this giveaway.
  • The winners of the Stirling Soap Company Shave soaps will be required to pay the full cost of shipping the soap.

Thank you to Rod and Mandy Lovan for providing the very wonderful smelling soaps and good luck to all who enter.

For this giveaway I am partnering with my friend Steven Enns of Hand & Sew.

As you may remember, I met Steven in real life during Vancouver’s Eastside Culture Crawl. I visited his shop and had the pleasure of seeing the variety of items he creates, all totally by hand.

A few weeks ago (maybe longer?) I participated in a Massdrop thingy that Steven was part of and I purchased a Simple Lanyard. I have my work keys on the Simple Lanyard and I have been watching that little piece of leather transform and develop a lovely patina as I use it in my day to day routine.

While visiting Steven’s shop I purchased a leather covered Field Notes book. That book is in the early stages of patina-development and I will report back on the progress in the coming months.

Now Steven is partnering with me and offering a Simple Lanyard AND one of his Simple Wallets to one of my readers.

Bay Towne Leather’s Credit Card Case – And a Giveaway!!

Once again I have acted upon my passion for quality leather; this time I bought a credit card case from my friend Roge at Bay Towne Leather.

Bay Towne Leather Credit Card Case
Bay Towne Leather Credit Card Case

The credit card case (pictured to the right) that Roge created for me is an excellent piece. Made of 5oz Premium Oak veg tan cow hide, it can hold eight credit cards (or driver’s license and other cards).

I particularly like the closure system – Swiss Army button studs. They slip into the little slots on the lid-flap hold the case closed very securely.

The outside of the case is dyed the deep reddish brown known as Cordovan while the inside is natural, uncoloured leather. This is a beauty of a little wallet/credit card case.

My “problem” is that I carry too many cards. What with credit cards, debit cards, loyalty cards, Tim cards and health cards, I have too many cards to comfortably fit inside this sweet little piece of leather.

When I told Roge at Bay Towne about my “problem” he offered to make me a new one at his cost. I said no way, seeing as I chose the wallet even after reading the dimensions and knowing how many cards I carry. Instead of having him foot the bill for my mess-up, I have asked Roge to make me a larger credit card case/wallet from his collection. He is in the process of making me a larger version of the “The Little Wallet That Can.”

So what should I do with my Bay Towne Leather credit card case? I paid $33.75 for it and I would feel awful just leaving this beauty of a little credit card case sitting in a drawer in my shave-cave, so… with Roge’s blessing, I have decided to give it away.

How can you win this little giveaway gem? All you have to do is make a comment on this blog post; in your comment include a number between one (1) and 488 and a link to the one item from Roge’s Etsy page that you would like to purchase or an item that catches your eye.

On Monday, May 20th, 2013 at 6pm PST I will use my Random Number Generator App to choose the winning number. If there is no exact match, the next nearest number will be the winner. As well as choosing your lucky number, be sure to cut and paste a link to your favourite item on Roge’s page into your comment to be eligible to win.

Marlondo Leather Bi-Fold Wallet Giveaway

As I have often said, I have a fetish for leather briefcases, satchels, messenger bags and wallets. The bags are typically too expensive to purchase too many of them too frequently. Fortunately, wallets are not too expensive, usually…

It just so happens I also love leather wallets. My current everyday carry is my ML Leather Fisherman’s wallet (on the right hand side in this photo).

My second favourite is my Whipping Post bi-fold. So that begs the question, why do I need two more Marlondo Leather wallets?

Marlondo Bi-Fold

I suppose I don’t.

So I am giving away the Marlondo Leather bi-fold pictured to the left. The wallet on top of the Marlondo Leather bi-fold is my ML Leather Fisherman’s wallet wallet. (I’m not letting go of my ML Leather Fisherman’s Wallet!)

To win this Marlondo Leather bi-fold wallet giveaway, simply guess a number between one (1) and one thousand (1000) and enter that number in a comment on this blog post. I will use a random number generator to find the winning number.

The rules:

One guess per person please.

In order for me to contact you, enter your email address (your email address will NEVER be made public and I will NOT send you any spam or any email other than to let you know you are the winner in this specific contest).

I will generate and publicize the winning number at 9pm (PST) tomorrow, April 29th 2013.

Have fun and may the odds be ever in your favor.
