A Little Time on the Foodie Beat

A couple of Foodie items today. Today I attended a late afternoon business meeting downtown Vancouver. Of course all of us who attended were missing our dinners or were expecting to be home late for dinner so the sandwiches provided for us were very appreciated.

Seeing as I am a vegetarian (a vegetarian who eats fish) I always go for the veggie sandwich. Today’s veggie sandwiches were delicious. The ciabatta bread had a great chewy crust that held together the ingredients quite nicely. Tucked inside the sandwich were roasted red peppers, thinly sliced cucumber, and tomato. The dressing was just the right amount of zippy-spicy. Well done. Congrats to the peeps at Green Mango Cafe and Catering for taking the veggie sandwich and elevating it a notch.

Also on the foodie beat, on my way to the downtown core I rode along Broadway across Commercial Drive. Riding west along Broadway, just as you cross Commercial is a hole-in-the-wall pizza place. For years I thought it was Uncle Faith’s Pizza. Today as I rode by I noticed that it is fact Uncle Fatih’s Pizza. I guess that is my mind making sense of things in its way.

And continuing on the pizza beat, I am always on the lookout for pizza by the slice places. Of course Four Brothers on Commercial is programmed into my GPS as a late night sneakaway.

My favourite in New Westminster is the hole-in-the-wall pizza place on 6th Street (I struggle with which are streets and which are avenues) just south of 8th Ave…next door to the Wendy’s Hamburger joint on 6th. I believe it is called the Mediterranean Donair House. Not too sure. But “my pizza guy” nearly always has a fresh veggie pizza with a slice or two ready to go for me.

Anybody else have a favourite pizza by the slice guy? Care to add your thoughts?

Yum Pizza! The best, BEST, BEEEEST Pizza around is at the Raven Pub in Deep Cove. Dear god its good. I used to drive all the way out there during rush hour before K was born, but to get a pizza to take home. YUM-O! There is also a great place in the New Port plaza in Port Moody. Its in the same plaza as the IGA and Starbucks and is called Pegasus Pizza. Deep dish and delish without being greasy! Again. YUM-O! Granted, neither are by the slice… believe me you’ll want the whole pizza anyways!

“your” pizza guy is Ian’s falafel guy – Ian swears it’s one of the best falafels in town. I never hesitate to mention it may be the only falafel place in town – and highlight Ian’s hunger and aversion to Wendy’s as contributing factors since I’m not a big falafel in a pita fan. That said, I have had one and it is yummy!

Not really related to your topic, but I always seem to boggle up the streets/avenues in New West too! I thought I was the only one!!

Renuka, you are not alone in boggling up streets and avenues in New West.
