I didn’t want to let the total failure of my air fryer Blooming Onion stop me from air frying other delicacies. So I decided to go all-in and air fry some Black Cod. And spoiler alert – it was sensational!
I carefully dried off the pieces of black cod and then gently applied a dry coating/rub of cornmeal, some Old Bay seasoning, smoked paprika, a shake of kosher salt, and some fresh ground black pepper. It was a very light coating that did not get in the way of the richness of the black cod.
I cooked the black cod in the air fryer at 375 for 8 minutes and then very carefully flipped the pieces of cod over and cooked them for another 3 minutes.
To be honest, I could have cooked the black cod for another minute or maybe two, but I didn’t want to risk over-cooking and drying out the fish. It was beautifully moist and the flavour … out of this world. Rich and an almost buttery flavour and mouth feel. Loved it.
The most important lesson I have learned about using the air fryer is that individual minutes really do count. I have previously had food that was under-cooked after 10 minutes in the air fryer and put it back on for another 4 minutes – HUGE mistake!
Why would I put it back on for that long?! Ridiculous. Now what I do is think about how long the initial cooking time was and put the food back in the air fryer for another 1-2 minutes and typically that is all that is needed.
