Classic Opening Sentences on Yelp and Urbanspoon

Shellfish
Shellfish

I quite enjoy reading the restaurant reviews that customers post into forums like Urbanspoon or Yelp. You know what Urbanspoon and Yelp are? Forums where real customers upload their reviews of the restaurants that they have patronized.

These reviews are usually helpful and informed but there are more than a few reviews that get me to laughing. The first sentence of the review is a sure sign of what you can expect.

So without further ado, here are what I consider to be the top three opening sentences on Yelp or Urbanspoon.

1. “Being a vegan I was not sure what to expect when I walked into the steakhouse with my partner who can only eat gluten free meals.”

Huh. You didn’t know what to expect?

2. “Even though I am quite allergic to shellfish  I agreed to go out for a sushi lunch with my colleagues; I have to say, the staff at the restaurant were very rude when I tried to order my meal.”

You don’t say.

And my all time favourite…

3. “I am very disappointed in the meal and the service we received at ___. The hot and sour soup that they served us for dinner was nothing like the hot and sour soup that my ninety-three year old Chinese grandmother always made for us.”

Yep, that is because you are in a restaurant, not at your grandmother’s house.

What are the best lines you have read from customer generated restaurant reviews?
