After watching the AMC TV series The Walking Dead, I decided, that in the eventuality of a zombie apocalypse it is better to be prepared than it is not to be. So, I have started the process of putting together a zombie apocalypse kit for my household.

As you can see in the photo, I have a few tools in my zombie apocalypse kit: an adjustable spanner, vice grips, a multi-purpose tool (Leatherman) a folding knife, a standard slot screwdriver and an all metal hatchet.
Of course I have also included six pair of mechanic-style rubber gloves, waterproof matches, glow sticks, a random pair of wool socks, a flashlight, two emergency blankets and a coil of rope.
I keep these tools and supplies in a leather grab bag in an out of the way cupboard.
So you may be asking, what is the real purpose of these supplies?
Well, call it what you want, a zombie apocalypse kit or an earthquake preparedness kit, you need to be thinking about what you would do if you and your family were without power, heat, light and water for a few days?
What would yo do if the gas line to your home is ruptured and you needed to shut the gas off? What would you use? Let me tell you, an adjustable spanner would come in handy. The Leatherman? Handy. After all, if you have no power, how are you going to cook your food?

The fact is, you may not have electricity for a few days or more in the event of a zombie apocalypse or an earthquake. That means you may actually find the cans of baked beans and sardines you set aside to be quite delicious. And you may find that Leatherman multi-purpose tool to be just as handy as I had mentioned.
Question to you; what are you doing to prepare yourself for an event like a zombie apocalypse or an earthquake? What supplies have you set aside?
On a related note, not pictured or mentioned above, I always have 10-20 gallons of water and a bottle or two of single malt Scotch whiskey set aside in the house in the unlikely event of a zombie apocalypse.
Other than firearms, ammunition or a machete, what more do I need to add to my zombie apocalypse kit? Any ideas?

Do you have any pets? Don’t forget pet food. Also, stick a wash cloth and towel in there – totally useful for both first aid and otherwise. Can opener? Water purification tablets. They take up zero space and are useful.
We have bags of cat and dog food in the house as usual. The water purification tablets are a good reminder – I will add them. The Leatherman is my can opener option.
Yikes! I’ve been watching this series as well, quite disturbing.
I love (love?) the idea of a crossbow for hand to hand combat, guns are noisy and well, ammunition will run out eventually. You can always make new arrows.
Also, don’t forget antibiotics and you’ll need more than a bottle or two of the good stuff. Bring canned fruit too so you don’t get scurvy, mate.
There’s more. But you can always go to the local pharmacy and take what you need in the event of a zombie apocalypse.
