Societal Values

I was listening to the news when I heard a couple of news stories that really rattled me and made me question our societal values.

The first news story that caught my attention was about a young man who was driving between 100 and 140 kmh in a 4o kmh zone near UBC. He lost control of his vehicle, drove onto a sidewalk and ran over two 18 year old first year students. Both of the students died.

The parents said that after the driver gets out of jail, their sentence wi

The driver was sentenced to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

The mom of one of the kids killed said that once the driver’s sentence is complete and he gets on with his life, her beautiful son will still be dead.

Two kids killed and the driver gets three years in prison.

The next news story I read came on almost immediately following the one about the driver killing two teens. This one was about a man who shot at an RCMP detachment in a small town west of Prince George.

That man was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Ten years for shooting at a building. Three years for killing two teens.

Give that some thought.
