The Spud Shack Fry Company Delights

Through my contacts on Twitter I found a new source of culinary delights on the third level of the newly revitalized and expanded New Westminster Skytrain Station; a station that is becoming an entertainment and foodie’s delight.

The Spud Shack Fry Company offers: Belgian frites. Poutine. Cod and frites. Halibut and frites. And local beer on tap. And more.

Poutine and Cod
Potine and Cod

My lunch choice today was a bit of a blend from the menu; one piece of cod with a medium size poutine. Extraordinary.

The cod is flavourful and not at all greasy. The batter forms a very light coating on the fish.

And the poutine…oh my. These are not “chips”.These are Belgian frites. From the Spud Shack website comes the following definition of what Belgian frites are:

  1. freshly cut, irregularly shaped
  2. cooked (fried) twice
  3. fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside
  4. a distinct potato taste
  5. at least 10 mm thick
  6. preferably served in a paper cone

A number seven bullet could be added to let people know that they are also unbelievably delicious. Which they are.

The homemade gravy is full bodied and complex yet not overpowering. The cheese curds are tangy goat cheese curds.

Needless to say, I will be returning to the Spud Shack Fry Company. Soon.

To hear what is going on at The Spud Shack Fry Co, you can follow them on Twitter @SpudShackCa or search Facebook for their Page.

Disclosure; I purchased the lunch described in this post for about $20 (including a pint of Whistler Ale). No financial or other form of incentive was provided by Spud Shack to me for writing this blog post. As always, in all my blog posts, I maintain full editorial control.

And I have found out since my visit to the Spud Shack that the amazing gravy is made from a vegan base so vegetarians can enjoy the poutine as well.
