Enough talk about BC’s public school classrooms for now and back to our usual fun stuff – today we are updating you on the changeover in the garbage/waste collection systems being implemented in Coquitlam.
With the changeover to Coquitlam’s new automated waste collection system starting the week of July 1, some Coquitlam residents in single-family homes may also have new collection zones and pick-up dates.
Residents can find their new collection zone – which indicates their curbside collection day – in the 2014/2015 Curbside Collection Calendar, which is being delivered with their new Garbage Cart and Green Cart.
The most convenient way to keep track of pick-up days is with the online Curbside Collection tool. Use the tool to view a personalized collection schedule and set up a reminder to receive a text message, phone call, email or tweet before your collection day. You can also upload your personalized Curbside Collection Schedule to your online calendar of choice – iCal, Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook.
Visit www.coquiltam.ca/curbsidecollection and type your home address in the search box. You can also download the Coquitlam Curbside Collection App for free from the App Store or Google Play store.
This is perhaps the most important point to note – Until July 1, you should continue to use your current garbage bins and to put out your garbage and recycling on your standard pick-up dates. After your last pick-up day in the last week of June, you can start using your new Garbage Cart and Green Cart.
I see a number of people in my neighbourhood who we affectionately call “early adopters” of change. Unfortunately, their early adoption of the new garbage cans means that their new cans are not being emptied and are being decorated with stickers that essentially say, “The note that came with this can said to not use it until after July 1st so enjoy keeping this stinking can of garbage in your garage until then.”
Anyway, delivery of the new waste and green bins will continue until the end of this week.
