Morning Tide Eatery: A Brunch Haven in Coquitlam

Morning Tide Eatery is located in one of those long, boring non-descript strip malls you find in the burbs. You will know you are getting close to Morning Tide when you see groups of people standing around outside. This place does get busy.

Morning Tide Eatery has quickly become the brunch destination for locals and visitors alike. Although there is limited seating inside, the combination of open grain wood tabletops and the modern atmosphere works – there is a warm and inviting feel to the room.

Saturday morning my friend and fellow foodie Michael Kwan decided to go for brunch. After running through a long list of Tri-Cities brunch spots, we landed on Morning Tide Eatery, a place neither of us had yet tried but had heard very positive thigs about.

Although there was a Sisig Eggs Benedict on special while we were there, we settled on the Pork Belly Eggs Benedict and the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict. We coordinated our breakfast orders so that we could both get a taste of two of the most popular brunch dishes.

The Pork Belly Eggs Benedict at Morning Tide Eatery were very good. This dish features twice-cooked crispy pork belly seasoned and cooked so there is the perfect crunch on the outside and that succulent, tender and juicy fatty inside. Lovely. The sriracha honey butter adds a touch of sweetness and spice, creating a balance of sweet and spicy flavours.

The pickled onions and serrano peppers offer a refreshing snap in contrast to the richness of the pork belly.

The other dish we ordered was the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict. Like the Pork Belly Benedict, the Fried Chicken Bennie is a must-try. This dish, obviously, features fried chicken. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Like all their Eggs Benedict, the fried chicken is paired with a rich and heavenly hollandaise sauce.

Same as the Pork Belly Benedict, the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict is served on a house-made English muffin, providing a sturdy base for the generous portions of pork belly or fried chicken and hollandaise. This dish is a hearty and satisfying brunch option.

Ordering these two dishes was a genius move, Michael lifted one side of his Fried Chicken Benedict onto my plate while I shared a side of my Pork Belly Bennie. We were both able to taste each other’s food choices without the messy digging into each other’s plate.

All the Bennies come with the choice of fried potatoes (my choice), a melon fruit salad, or a side salad. The fried potatoes were a beautiful combination of light and crispy. Lovely.

If you find yourself in Coquitlam looking for a good brunch place, stop by Morning Tide Eatery. We both loved the Pork Belly Eggs Benedict and the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict. You can also try the traditional Benedict with peameal bacon – that is what I will be having on my next visit.

If the two dishes that we sampled are any indication of the quality of food, I am sure you will also have a good brunch or lunch at Morning Tide Eatery.

Morning Tide Eatery is located at #8 – 228 Schoolhouse in Coquitlam and is open 10am to 3pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
