In the old days I loved going to the Arts Club Theatre on Granville Island to see theatre productions like Ring of Fire; The Music of Johnny Cash.
I loved everything about the experience. However, as my life shifted to the ‘burbs, getting to the theatre on Granville Island has become more and more difficult. So I don’t think there was anyone happier than me when I found out about Arts Club on Tour productions.
The Arts Club on Tour takes select Arts Club productions and well, takes them on tour to the ‘burbs. They visit theatres such as the Anvil Centre in New West, the Shadbolt in Burnaby, the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam.
They go even further afield and visit theatres in communities like Mission, Chilliwack, West Van, Courtney, and Maple Ridge. The idea is to take the arts to the people. And I love it.
I had the opportunity to see Ring of Fire; The Music of Johnny Cash at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam.

This inspired theatrical concert, brought to life by a talented ensemble of singers and musicians, delves into the heart of Cash’s music. The audience gets to experience his artistry through timeless hits like “I Walk the Line,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Country Boy,” and “A Boy Named Sue,” all songs that connect with universal emotions and experiences along the way.
Ashlie Corcoran, Arts Club Theatre Company Artistic Director, said “Ring of Fire isn’t about impersonating Johnny Cash; it’s about celebrating his life through the musicianship of our performers and their incredible
talent for sharing a foot-stomping, crowd-pleasing musical journey. We love touring our shows to communities in the Lower Mainland and beyond. We know fans young and old are going to love Ring of Fire as our cast expertly captures the essence of Cash’s music. This concert experience will both move and exhilarate audiences.”

The cast, playing their own instruments, takes the audience on a rousing adventure through Cash’s world.

This musical explores the wild rag-to-riches story from a childhood in the Dirty Thirties in Arkansas, where Cash worked the fields as the son of Southern Baptist sharecroppers, to his gradual climb to fame as a country
singer-songwriter, his life on the road, his battles with booze and drugs, and, above all, his enduring relationship with country music royalty June Carter.
The cast for Ring of Fire; The Music of Johnny Cash is Devon Busswood, Frankie Cottrell, Daniel Deorksen, Tainui Kuru, Patrick Metzger, Caitriona Murphy.
The Arts Club on Tour Ring of Fire; The Music of Johnny Cash theatrical production is playing at the Evergreen Cultural Centre March 11th to 16th.
