Today we headed over to the North Shore to visit the Maplewood Farm on old Dollarton Highway and to cash in a coupon I received via Twitter for Siegel’s Bagel’s new retail storefront, Rosemary Rocksalt.
Maplewood Farms…meh. Glad we visited but I doubt that we would ever return. Far too many up-sell items that make the visit very unpleasant when all I ended doing for most of the time there was saying no to my girls. “No, you can’t ride that little tractor because it is $4 for 30 minutes and you would be bored of it in two minutes” and so on…
The good thing was, once we were on the North Shore it was easy to convince my Sweetheart to head up Lonsdale to 17th for a quick visit to Rosemary Rocksalt – the new bagel shop. Especially seeing as I received an e-coupon good for one free bagel sandwich of my choosing simply because I was one of their first 1000 followers on Twitter.
Being a traditionalist, I chose the “everything bagel” with Montreal Smoked Meat. I was a little shocked when I saw that the bagel would have cost me $9 ($12 for a large) but when I opened it up, there was enough Montreal Smoked Meat in the bagel to satiate even my never-ending hunger. Wow what a mound of meat! I can’t even imagine what a large bagel full of meat would look like.
While we were in Rosemary Rocksalt there was a non-stop stream of people coming in, ordering, waiting and then leaving with bags full of bagels. My only regret was that they were temporarily out of their namesake bagel, the Rosemary Rocksalt bagel so I couldn’t get a dozen to go. (They had some coming out of the wood fired oven within ten minutes but I had a kid on my shoulders, another tugging at my arm and Sweetheart waiting outside.
This shop seems to have hit a niche on the North Shore and I predict that they will do very well in their corner location on 17th and Lonsdale.
