You probably already know that I am big fan of Doughnut Love, my local gourmet doughnut shop. Their apple fritters and their old-fashioned style doughnuts are absolutely spectacular.
While I do love the doughnuts from Doughnut Love, the reality is, I cannot live on doughnuts alone. Believe it or not.
Some mornings I want a savoury option. Something like an egg McMuffin sandwich. However, my preference is to support local as often as possible so I don’t want to stop at the Golden Arches. Or at that place that has square burgers – although I sometimes have done so.
The good news is – Clint and Kat, the creatives behind Doughnut Love have answered my call. They have created a bacon, egg, and cheddar cheese breakfast sandwich – on a Brioche doughnut!
Sounds weird? Bacon and egg on a doughnut? Maybe. But…I am here to tell you that this idea works. Not only does it “work”, I say it works spectacularly.
They start by baking a sheet of eggs and then cutting them into squares. Sort of reminds me of that square patty burger joint. The square part anyway.
They slice a brioche doughnut in half, put the square of egg on it, add some aged cheddar cheese, and a couple pieces of thick cut bacon. A wonderfully thick layer of bacon.
The spicy Calabrese Pepper Aioli gives the Doughnut Love breakfast just enough kick to make my taste buds sit up and pay attention. Close it up and get that sandwich in my mouth!
I’m talking about pure wholesome goodness. The Brioche doughnut isn’t sweet enough to distract from the spicy, bacony, cheese and egg insides. The doughnut just perfectly holds together the salty, savoury goodness of the egg, bacon, and cheese. So good.
Go ahead and try the breakfast sandwich at Doughnut Love. I know you’ll like it. Feel free to comment on my Instagram post about their doughnuts! And if you feel so inclined, follow my on Instagram for more random food adventures.
Doughnut Love can be found at 107-1655 Como Lake Ave in Coquitlam – almost next door to another one of my favourites, Doppio Zero Pizza.
