One of my guiding principles as I visit the downtown of Vancouver is to sample unique, non-chain restaurants. Breka Bakery and Cafe sort of falls into that category even though there are now a number of locations.

As I do at home, I enjoy starting my day quite early with a cup of black coffee. That’s part of the reason why I wandered back up Robson to the Breka Bakery and Cafe. They’re always open so when I’m out at 6am, there’s a coffee ready for me.

There’s also a great selection of breakfast sandwiches and pastries available for what I consider to be reasonable prices.
For lunch I revisited Urban Fare.

Remembering yesterday when I had two large slices of pizza at Urban Fare, today I limited myself to one pack of sushi. The perfect lite lunch.
I can’t help it! I find something I like and I return.

So for dinner I went back to the Breka Bakery and Cafe. Seeing as it close to sleepy time, I chose a lavender latte.

And even though while I’m downtown I’m walking twice as much as I usually do, I’m just not hungry at dinner time. Today I had a spinach and artichoke pocket. It was good. Not great. I’m not a fan of pastries going into a panini maker.
I think about the effort a pastry chef put into their work and then someone flattens it right out. Doesn’t work for me.
Funny, there’s a burger food truck/wagon downtown called Rao’s. I want to try their smash burger but I’m never hungry enough to order a burger!
Maybe tomorrow!
